Plein Air Quick Draw Event April 2025

Prospectus

  • Join local Plein Artists on Sunday, April 27, 2025.

  • This event is open to all artists wishing to paint in Plein Air. 

  • Early registration online through Lakeland Arts Association is $30. 

  • To register on-site the day of the event will be $35.

This is a “rain or shine” event, there will be no refunds for inclement weather. 

Timeline for event:

Event Date: Sunday, April 27, 2025

  • Artists will check in on site Sunday April 27, 8-9 am. 

  • Artists will have up to two surfaces stamped for painting.

  • Registration will be held at the Lakeland Arts Association tent. 

  • Paint en Plein Air 9-12.  

  • Work will be judged from 12 – 1pm.  

  • Exhibit works 1 pm-3 pm 

  • Awards  - totaling $575 -  will be announced at 3pm.

Rules:

  • This event is open to all artists 18 years of age or older.

  • Artists will check in at the registration tent between 8 - 9am. Up to two painting surfaces can be stamped. Surfaces may be toned but will not have any line or image on the surface at time of registration.

  • Artist setup may not impede the staging of the exhibitors or flow of the show. Painting will start at 9am and end at 12 noon.

  • Maximum size 11”x14” or 154 square inches, there is no minimum size.

  • Frames are optional but will help judging and with sale of the work.

  • We encourage the sale of your work.  If work is sold, LAA will take a 10% premium to cover the cost of card processing. You will receive a check in the mail within a week for the balance. There will be no fee for cash sales. 

  • Acceptable mediums are:

    • watercolor,

    • oil,

    • pastels,

    • acrylic,

    • pencil,

    • ink,

    • mixed medium

    • collage.

  • Only 2-dimensional works will be accepted, photography and digital work will not be accepted in this event.

 

Judging:

  • You will need to return by 12:15 pm to the registration tent and check in.

  • Paintings will be checked for stamps. You will then be directed to the standing gallery area where you will display your painting on your easel to be judged.  This area will be monitored by LAA volunteers. 

  • Painting Check-in

    • When you check in with your finished painting you will be given a label for each piece. You will put your

      • name,

      • telephone number,

      • title,

      • medium,

      • size and price / NFS.

      • This label will be attached to the painting.

      • Artists may choose to frame their work to aid in selling it, but it is not required.

  • We are honored that Wayne Chunat will be judging this event.

    • He will be judging between 12 and 1 pm.

    • Winners announced at 3 pm.

AWARDS:

  • 1st  $250

  • 2nd  $150

  • 3rd $75

  • HM (2)  $50

              

Cautions/Releases:

  • All entries are displayed at artist’s risk. The Lakeland Arts Association will not be responsible for theft or damage to frames /paintings/ equipment.

  • Submission of works for judging and sales constitutes an agreement by the artists to the provisions within this prospectus.

  • Artists participating in this event grant permission for Lakeland Arts Association to use their name and images for the purpose of advertisement in this and future show events. Artist allows sponsoring agents and news media the right to use a photo of your work in this and future promotions of this event.

 

Parking

Parking will be an issue. Parking will be available around the perimeter of the event.  Be prepared to walk.

 

Equipment:

In addition to your Plein Air box, you may wish to bring:

  • Small shade umbrella, 

  • Camp stool or small folding chair.

  • Collapsible Folding floor easel or comparable – not required, pieces can be displayed on tables.

  • Cooling neck cloth

  • Frame and mounting hardware and display easel.
